District Profile
Keegans Bayou rises one mile south of Clodlne and two miles west of the Harris county line In northeastern Fort Bend County (at 29°41′ N, 95°40′ W) and runs eleven miles east to Its mouth on Bray’s Bayou, east of U.S. Highway 59 and south of downtown Houston near Brae Bum Country Club In southwestern Harris County (at 29°40′ N, 95°32′ W). The Bayou was named for James Kegans, Jr., an early settler of Texas. The creek Is Intermittent in Its upper reaches. The surrounding flat to rolling terrain is surfaced by sandy and clay loam that originally supported mixed hardwoods and pines; the area Is now residential metropolitan Houston.
An order granting petition for organization of West Keegans Bayou Improvement Dlstrlct was made on March 14, 1979. The order provided authority to the District, per the Texas Water Code, to purchase, construct, acquire, own operate, repair, mainta in, Improve, or extend a drainage system for the District to permll It to control, abate, change harmful excesses of water, and to gather, conduct, divert, and control local storm waters and other local harmful excesses of water. The District’s Board of Directors meets monthly. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at 4:45pm at 9814 Camellia Gardens Drive, Richmond, Texas, 77407. Meetings are open to the public. Meeting dates and times are subject to change.
